Since I started making my own deodorant, I have been trying to find a homemade lotion that wasn’t too oily or too dry. I tried the body bars and didn’t like the waxy feeling that was left on my skin. I tried straight coconut oil, and although I use it on my face as a moisturizer at night, it was a little too oily for daily all over use. Finally, a friend told me about this recipe and I love it! When I finished making it, I had to resist the urge to lick the spoon – it just looked like delicious frosting or whipped butter. This makes a great Christmas gift for anyone who enjoys pampering themselves (I just finished making a batch – shh don’t tell). I even made a batch with tea tree oil for my husband (his suggestion), as he has a little psoriasis we are trying to knock out with home remedies – I’ll let you know how that goes.
I love the simplicity of this lotion as it has just 3 ingredients. All you need is 1 cup organic raw shea butter, 1/2 cup coconut oil & 1/2 cup almond oil.
{For a great pictorial guide go here. I was in a hurry and didn’t get to take pictures!}
Simply melt the shea butter and coconut oil in a double broiler (or a metal bowl over a pot with a few inches of water). Once this is melted, let it sit for 30 minutes off of the heat. Next add the almond oil and any essential oil you want. I added orange and it smells amazing!
Stir in the oils and let it sit until the oils just start to harden. Then whip them all together until you get a buttery frosting, delicious looking, consistency. Drop them in the jars and garnish how you please. Perfect homemade Christmas gift!
